What Does It Take To Become a Photographer? Digital Journal spoke with Sheru Photographer.

Digital Journal: Could you tell me a little bit about yourself?

Sheru photographer: I’m Sheru, from Delhi, India. I’m a Portrait photographer and street photographer enthusiast and working as a Cinematographer, and filmmaker in the industry from the last 5 years. I’m coming from Old Delhi Street. I was born and brought up on the street. I did my schooling by supporting Butterflies NGO, and currently, I’m a graduate from Delhi University. Also, I’m working full-time at Masha Art, and apart from this, I’m doing my photography business and doing work as an independent journalist on a multi-media platform such as YouthKiAwaaz.

One more thing, Recently, I have started a digital media site that is Thetrendingpeople (news media site) which is one of the largest digital Media Platform in India.

DJ: When, how, and why did you start clicking images?

Sheru photographer: Honestly, I’m very passionate about my camera and have been interested in photography during my childhood and even in my school days. I developed my photography skills after Joined Carrot films as a cinematographer and photographer. I used to click BTS, Street images, and Portrait pictures on my phone but I always took it seriously and with utmost sincerity. I used to click on what I see around us, just like a kid who got a new toy.

I joined the college in 2018. That day my whole life changed and I took interest in the study and learning new things. Then I fell in love with college and the camera. I never had a good experience with the college but one of my mentors Mr. Abhishek Halder (Carrot Film) told me everything regarding college and taught me a camera. Then I got a chance to go on a shoot and I started clicking pictures from my perspective. I love to travel and take pictures to escape from college. I was going through a rough patch, and I was quite disappointed with myself for not understanding this and that sometimes. Then I started to love everything around me.

DJ: Most of your pictures are shoot with a phone. Is there a particular reason for this?

Sheru Photographer (SP): I have been using Redmi devices for 4 years now. They keep putting good camera quality and features on their phones. So that’s why I kept upgrading every year to their new redmi phone.

I have good experience using any DSLR or any other camera but I always try to shoot on my phone because it’s very convenient for me to take out the phone and shoot anywhere, anytime without any distractions. I haven’t thought about buying a camera up until now. I will probably think about it once I get to experience and advanced skills, I wish to buy it with my hard earned money.

DJ: Why come across single subjects in your photographs? Tell us more about it.

Sheru photographer: Most of the time I try to focus on a single subject during whatever I shoot. I believe it’s easy to track the movement, and emotions of a single subject. That’s why I’m doing this crazy thing. I have been doing it since my initial days. I’m always trying to explore some different styles.

DJ: Could you tell us some of your inspirations – (artists, photographers, etc)?

Sheru photographer: If I’m talking about my favorite photographer, one of my favorite photographers is Mr. Ganesh Vanare from Mumbai. Some of his work styles I have followed since I joined Instagram. His work is so attractive to other artists and that’s why it has motivated and influenced me a lot. And I’m really excited to work with him someday.

DJ: Do want to share some words of love for those who love photography?

Sheru Photographer: Thanks a lot, Digital Journal, for allowing me to share my views with you. It’s my honor that you invited me. I would like to say only one thing, that is,“There is no quick way to learn photography, you need to go for an outshoot and experiment with your perspective and point of view”. And try to build your angles and theme whatever you want you to show in pictures. So, Follow your passion, keep pushing yourself, and chase your dreams, until it becomes reality and inspires someone else dream.
