Backpack Fundraiser for Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, Ukraine

Foster City, California and Kyiv, Ukraine — December 16, 2022 — Families and children of Ukraine have endured more than nine months of escalating devastation and displacement as a result of an ongoing brutal war. Children continue to be killed, wounded and deeply traumatized by the violence all around them. Ohmatdyt, a specialized Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, Ukraine works around the clock to help its pediatric patients heal visible and invisible wounds. One of these Ohmatdyt patients is Maryna whose left leg had to be partly amputated after a Russian strike on her home in Kherson, Ukraine. She is learning to walk again with the help from her physical therapist. Unfortunately, there are many stories similar to Maryna of the children who in one way or another have been affected by war.

During this holiday time, the Bair Island Cyber Lions Club in Foster City is running a “Backpack

Fundraiser” for the wounded children affected by the war in Ukraine and treated by Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital.

The goal is to raise $7,000 by December 31, 2022 and to fund 100 backpacks — each backpack containing a blanket, children’s book, colored pencils, crayons, flash light, notebook, pencil case, snacks, soft toy, toothbrush, toothpaste and water bottle. The funds will be collected here in the United States and then transferred to the Lions Club in Kyiv to make local purchases of the above supplies for the backpacks and to distribute them at the children’s hospital.
