Stockton, California, United States, 30th Sep 2022, King NewsWire, A fight between Gabriel Flores Jr VS Giovannie “KingGio” Gonzalez two of Northern California’s most marketable fighters has garnered steam and attention for a possible showdown in early 2023. Both fighters once trained at the same gym in the famous fighting town of Stockton, Ca where rumors of intense sparring sessions would go down between the two fighters. A fight between two of Northern California’s most marketable Professional Boxers makes sense for both sides on a financial side and also competitive level. Giovannie Gonzalez or as he’s famously known as “KingGio” has had a tremendous run in the past 18 months since he famously retired for a short period of time after losing via split decision to Jose Luis Roa in a 10 round war where many had Gonzalez winning the 2020 fight of the year candidate. Since that lost Gonzalez pretty much cleaned house and hired a completely new team that also led him to purchasing a boxing gym to train out off in Lodi, Ca (KG Boxing Academy) and adding Lynol Salas as his new head trainer and promoting long time strength and conditioning coach Richard Carrera to Co Trainer, Since that strategic move, Gonzalez has gone 5-0 knocking out 4 of his opponents and avenging his only draw against a once undefeated boxing prospect that is advised by former world champion Eric Morales. Gonzalez masterfully outboxed Brandon Cortez for 8 rounds which led him to a unanimous decision win and handing Cortez his first professional loss of his career, Cortez looked completely lost and confused and immediately showed the success of Gonzalez and his new head trainer Lynol Salas.
Gabriel Flores Jr has had a rough 12 months going 1-2 in his last 3 fights where many boxing fans think he should be 3-0 but most importantly the 2 losses he suffered were completely one sided. Flores Jr jumped up in weight to 135 and fought Giovannie Cabrera, a fighter that has only 7 Kos in 21 fights and is not known to be a knockout artist. Cabrrera completely dominated the once blooming young prospect virtually from the first punch thrown in the fight that had Flores on his back 8 seconds in the first round. Giovannie Cabrrera easily cruised to a unanimous decision while dropping Gabriel Flores Jr 4 more times and putting Flores in a unique situation. Gabriel Flores Jr was signed by Top Rank at the age 16 which at the time was the youngest fighter to be signed by the boxing promotion company. They heavily pushed him and carefully picked each opponent so he could look good as any other experienced promoter would but reached a point, they had to put a fighter that would pose some type of threat to truthfully test their years of investment in Flores Jr. Unfortunately, Flores has gone 1-2 since his opposition in opponents was raised which cost him his contract with Top Rank and he is now deemed a free agent. Even though Flores Jr has those bad losses and no longer is promoted by one of the best boxing promotions in the world, he does still hold some type of weight in his name, which brings us to Flores Jr Vs Gonzalez. Throughout the years many fans would bring this fight up but was immediately brushed off by both sides since it wasn’t a fight that either party was interested in since they both trained out of the same gym and more importantly fought out of the same city, Stockton, Ca although Gonzalez was also raised in nearby Lodi, Ca and Flores Jr. relocated to Las Vegas.
A fight between these two fighters would be the first superfight to take place in Stockton Ca and would easily sell out at the Stockton arena based on the fact both fighters have a huge following, both are still young and in their prime. A fight against a tough veteran fighter like Gonzalez would be a risky fight for Flores Jr coming back from tough losses he experienced, Flores has all the tools to beat Gonzalez with his crafty style and long jab and assuming he gets tru Gonzalez would put Flores right back where he left off before those losses. Gonzalez style is hard to read, sometimes you get a boxer and other times you get a rigid come forward fighter that can lead to a tough fight but also has the tools to beat Flores despite the 10-year age gap, a win for Gonzalez would catch the attention of many current world champions in his respective weight division.
A fight of this magnitude in Northern California would spark debates reminiscent of the 2007 super fight in Las vegas, Floyd Mayweather JR vs Oscar De La hoya and easily spark a universal question of ”Who would win?”.
