Liberty HealthShare Reveals Why Communication and Transparency Matter in Healthcare

0

February 5th, 2025- Communication is crucial, especially when it comes to handling healthcare — and Liberty HealthShare takes conversing with its members seriously.

“We are member-focused,” Liberty HealthShare Chief Executive Officer Dorsey Morrow says. “You can expect from us a lot of communication, a lot of resources.”

Liberty HealthShare functions with approximately 165 team members who help facilitate the sharing of medical expenses among members nationwide. Its approach prioritizes direct communication and transparency.

“Our employees are called to serve our members and for each one, the relationship developed with members is deeply personal and life-changing,” a Liberty HealthShare YouTube video states.

Liberty HealthShare: ‘Trustworthy, Responsive and Transparent’

A shared sense of responsibility and commitment unites Liberty HealthShare with its growing community of members.

“We do what we say, and we say what we will do,” Morrow explains. “Anything and everything you want to know about Liberty HealthShare, you can go to our website. You’ll see we are an open book. Our values include accountability, and that means being trustworthy and responsive and transparent in what we do.”

A recent example highlighted this philosophy when helping a member transitioning to Medicare. Unaware of how the programs interacted, she incurred substantial medical expenses.

“Liberty HealthShare staff worked with their vendors to reprice her bills,” Morrow says. “Members shared in eligible medical expenses and dedicated team members guided her through proper program setup. We worked with her so that she wasn’t left in what should be her golden years dealing with some sizable medical debt.”

Built on the concept that “health is truly about taking care of both your body and your spirit” and that a “healthcare sharing ministry focuses on both your physical and spiritual well-being,” Liberty HealthShare’s hyperfocus remains on its members.

“We are here to help facilitate sharing between our members,” Morrow explains. “We are not driven by profit. It’s frankly our goal to go broke each month. The contributions coming in should be the contributions that go out.”

Another instance in which Liberty HealthShare’s team was able to demonstrate how it’s there for its members is when Beverly Hasting, a Liberty HealthShare team lead, described her experience helping a member in a YouTube video.

“I had a member whose husband always handled the monthly shares and took care of everything and she called in. He had just passed away and she didn’t know what to do. So I walked her through everything to be expected with her monthly share and how to use her ShareBox,” Hasting said. “I sympathized with her and prayed with her. I built a really good rapport with her.”

It’s what happened at the end of the call, however, when Hasting admitted she realized the impact their chat had.

“She said, ‘You know, after he died I was really struggling with my

faith and I was really struggling to find who I am. But talking to you and you praying with me made me feel like I’m building that relationship back with God, and I feel like that there’s hope after this,’” Hasting remarked.

The Liberty HealthShare Difference

Through its sharing portal, members can see who their contributions have helped. “Most folks don’t take time to stop and engage with others,” Morrow reflects. “We do our best to share the experience of individual members, the success stories they have or the trials they’re going through, through our newsletter, our website.”

Liberty HealthShare encourages active participation in healthcare decisions. “Since the employer programs started, what, back in the ’40s or so, and since the ’60s and ’70s with employer insurance, America basically has turned financing healthcare and taking responsibility for their healthcare on autopilot,” Morrow says.

“What if we were to all start taking an active part of understanding what the service is being delivered, ‘Doc, why are you doing that? Why do we need to do this? What’s that going to cost? Is there something else that might be better suited?’”

Faith In Liberty HealthShare

Prayer requests arrive each Friday at Liberty HealthShare. Morrow reads through them, joining his team in prayer for the community’s health needs — a practice distinguishing this organization from others in the healthcare space. Praying with members is an integral part of the faith-reinforced foundation that defines Liberty HealthShare.

“We have a list that is distributed internally on every Friday of prayer requests from our members,” Morrow says. “It’s one of those times during the day you just stop, you read through it, and then we pray over it. Whether it’s with the member or for the member, we are about prayer.”
