Hosted by The Chrysalis BREW Project, the award celebrates outstanding children’s literature across diverse categories.

The Chrysalis Books, Reviews, and Everything Written (BREW) Project has announced the winners of the BREW Children’s Book Excellence Award 2024. As part of the platform’s global initiative to honour outstanding contributions to literature, blogs, and poetry, this year’s awards shine a spotlight on the exceptional talent in children’s literature.

The highest honour, BREW Children’s Book Excellence Award Book of the Year, has been awarded to Tania Moloney’s “Nature Ninja Saves the Natural World.” The book, which encourages a deep connection to nature and environmental stewardship among young readers in a fun, simplified, and relatable way, has also received the Nature Book of the Year category title.

Additionally, Nurture in Nature Books, the publisher of Moloney’s award-winning book, has been named the BREW Children’s Book Excellence Award 2024 Publisher of the Year. This accolade highlights their commitment to publishing high-quality and impactful literature for children.

The BREW Children’s Book Excellence Award is committed to recognising and celebrating the authors and publishers who significantly contribute to the enrichment of young minds through literature. Previous Book of the Year winners of the award include “The Adventures of Angel: A Kitten’s Story” by Ross Alan Hahn and “The Love Tank: A Book About Empathy, Kindness, and Self-Awareness” by Andrea Mendoza-Vasconez.

The judging process for the award involves a thorough evaluation based on the standard BREW book awards core criteria. Nominated books are assessed on their content, writing style, or visual presentation, depending on relevance. Judges consider the appeal of the book to its target audience, its uniqueness, and the quality of editing. Aside from the usual BREW book award judging parameters, additional criteria are also applied for the BREW Children’s Book Excellence Award, including the presence of good role models, the promotion of moral values, age-appropriate language and topics, and illustrations suitable for the intended age group. The book’s approval by licensed educators or professionals, adherence to industry-standard research processes, and other relevant factors, such as the author’s expertise among others, are also taken into account. This comprehensive approach ensures that all aspects of a book’s quality and relevance are considered in the selection of the award winners.
